Mandala of Life and Death
Wellington Museum of Land & Sea
Death & Diversity Exhibition, 2011
Using natural materials collected from around New Zealand, the mandala explores the concept behind the Buddhist circle of life and death. Its intricate design can be read in a number of ways. On one level, it represents spiritual enlightenment manifested as a pure world system. It also shows the interconnectedness of life as well as the transitory nature of life and its ongoing cycles.
