Waitakaruru Sculpture Garden
Waitakaruru Sculpture Gardens
Waikato, New Zealand, 2011
E:Scape is an annual autumn exhibition held NZ’s largest sculpture park and curated by Sarah Anderson.
The Park is an arboretum that has been created in a formerly derelict quarry of 42-acres. Planting started in 1991 and has been designed to use and enhance the landscape of rocky outcrops, ponds, flowing water, and broad vistas toward Mt. Pirongia.
Waitakaruru is a successful rehabilitation project with a substantial history; it offers a unique environment exploring a range of environmental, land based, ephemeral, performance and conceptual art works.
The park shows how a place of land destruction can be transformed into a place of contemplative beauty.
